We’re gonna see a simple version. Yes. And then a more complicated version of a couple different DIY’s. Yeah.
Exactly, yup. There are three big different design trends. We’ve done them on the show, we’re gonna talk about them here. One, the first one is wall covering, and wall paper has come a long way. It’s not your granny’s kind of Laura Ashley kind of look. This is a great kind of texture, and on the show, if somebody has a boring space, we say wrap it in a texture, and this gives you that burlap look. What’s so great about this, is this is basically contact paper– I thought it was burlap.
For your walls. I was touching it, it freaked me out, it’s flat. It’s just a photographic reproduction of that texture. That’s amazing
On a contact paper, and then to apply it, it’s self-stick. Now, all you need is one of these paint scraper thingies.
Yeah. And you get all of the air bubbles out of it, and you’ve got this– I would use the bench scrape for my kitchen, right? Yeah, good one.
Yeah, you could do that too. But you’ve got this great textured wallpaper look, and if you–
As long as you have a ladder you’re all set.
Yes, or one of these.
As long you’ve got a ladder right there.
(audience applauds) But wait, don’t order yet, there’s more. The thing about this is it’s a temporary. You can put it on
If you want you can pull it right off.
Or pull it off, so if you move, or if you’re a renter, or if you wanna put it in some place fun like inside your closet, it’s very quick and easy to put up and take down. (audience applauds) Come on, pick up the pace here people. Window coverings can make a huge difference in your home, so there’s many panels that you can buy pre-made, and one of the trends was just to do kind of these, more
Oh the color blocking. Embellished panels, and this one is a color block, so it’s just a basic panel down here, and then a different contrast color here. Just gives it a little bit more personality. I like that very much. You can buy these pre-made, and if you wanna be crafty, you could just get a piece of contrasting fabric, and use the original panels you have, and you temptape, and iron it on, and do a bright color, or maybe a twall.
Temtape. We’re all about easy breezy. Yeah, it’s so totally easy breezy. This is a great sort of modern, sort of a contemporary modern way to bring in another, whether it’s a pattern, or another pop of color, and the color blocking idea. Now this, my thing that I’m gonna talk about is basically taking again, just a sort of a– Store bought panel. Store bought panel that you like that works with your wall covering, and the height of your windows or your paint, and then to give it a really custom, high-end sort of look, you can go and just pick out a trim that you like that fits your look, that you wanna bring in a little pattern maybe, or you wanna bring in, you could do one that’s like a woven, and– You could do a solid grosgrain. You could do a solid grosgrain or a stripe, and then you just take, all you have to do is take, this is just carpet tape, and so when you use the carpet tape
Double sided tape is all they did with this.
It’s carpet tape, that’s all it is. That’s amazing.
just double sided tape. And then you can swap it out any time you want. Right, exactly. This just comes right off, there is a double sided tape. You can get the tape in different widths, and it just goes right on the back, you run it where you want this, and you just put it on, and you’ll see it’s just, it’s a really great– That’s so simple.
It’s a really great simple look.
(audience applauds) One of the other really big trends are leather accents, and it just, it’s a cool kind of fun thing right now, and you’ll see lamps that are wrapped in leather, leather lamp shades, leather trays. This is just an easy way to update a chest, it could be your bathroom vanity, anything.
Oh this is really clever, I just got it. Is to change ut the hardware, and we made these little leather pulls. You could just get leather at a fabric shop. You take a screw, and you put it right in here. It’s so easy. And you just swap out the pull. You take this stick that has a thing on the end. It’s called a screwdriver. That.
(audience laughs) And then it’s easy to replace it. Thank you, ’cause everything has a funny name, right? The thingy, the thing.
Oh we didn’t even need that. Okay.
(audience laughs) And then we put this on.
We’re updating. And you’ve got
Your days Must be fun, but long.
Your new look. Yeah, we’re up pretty– Look I’m done already. (audience applauds) Voila.
Yeah, that’s great. About five minutes, $5. Five minutes, $5, I love that. We’ll do that as a segment next time. Five minutes, $5. Right, and so the same idea of updating your kitchen cabinetry, your bathroom, or a chest of drawers, your bedside tables with new hardware. This is maybe a little more advanced move, but the idea of when you’re looking for curtain hardware, and you’ll see it a lot of places where you have availability for this kind of product, they sell it a la carte, so you can, you can mix metal rings with wood, you can then do lucite as your finial, and you can
Love that. Think of it the same way you would mix your jewelry, or your earrings and your bracelets, and have fun with it.
And you can swap it out. Right, and actually do some interesting layering. So again, you can bring the leather in, you can bring metal, a pop of metal, a little sparkle of silver. I love the lucite. The lucite’s really fun.
The lucite’s gorgeous. You can do–
It would make a nice ring. You can do lucite poles.
(audience applauds) And a lot of this is available at major retailers, and they have all of these really fun– I did not know.
Bringing the rope. Yeah, and you mix and match and you get a custom look. (audience applauds)
