For the history buff in all of us, this is really our passion project. With Architect Series Reserve, we envisioned creating the most historically accurate aluminum-clad window and door product line that Pella has ever made. The insight for this line really came from the source. We looked at history books and talked to custom home builders and architects and asked what are they looking for in historically authentic products. And what they want is a product that will adhere to the design without compromising their vision or performance. But above all, they told us to ensure that the product was foundationally and aesthetically historical. We also met with historic preservation groups and The National Park Service, and they were impressed that we were listening to the architects and taking the time to design the product correctly, focusing on the intricate details to make it right. And it’s really the details that make all the difference. From the historical depth of the putty glaze profiles to the through stile construction, it really sets the product apart. Window makers often have to compromise in those features for manufacturing processes or to deliver cost efficiencies. But Pella said, “Let’s focus on delivering the right level of authenticity.” Our design allows the cladding to create crisp lines that reflect that traditional butt joinery. As you work your way around the product, you see equal sightlines and a checkrail that reflects that historic design. The sash lugs are another detail to consider. It’s always been a chore to put those on a clad product. But we’ve come up with an innovative way to mimic what was done historically while retaining the tilt feature of a modern window. It really makes it look authentic. Our goal with Architect Series Reserve products was to get as close as possible with historic window details and proportions. And I say as close as possible because it’s about getting close while retaining current window technologies and energy benefits. And that’s what these products are all about: impeccable design with intricate detailing that produces authenticity. When we talk to architects, they tell us they want pure details. And lucky for us, the details are what drive our passion.
