Designer vs. Non-Designer Episode 4

Designer vs. Non-Designer Episode 4

(upbeat music) – Hey guys, welcome back
to another episode of Designer vs. Non-Designer. Where we have a professional
graphic designer battle it out with a non-graphic designer to see who can complete
a design request better. In the designer’s corner,
we have Gela Lozare, a professional graphic
designer for Design Pickle. And in the non-designer
corner, we have Alex Guevara, our Brand and Experience Director. The design request is submitted by a real Design Pickle client that they actually need designed. This is the request. They have not seen it before. They have not seen each other’s work. And, let’s just see who does it better. (upbeat music) Okay, so designer has a cool
color pallette on the side, just to keep track of
what he’s thinking about. Okay. What the hell? Alex, what are you doing? Please tell me you’re not
gonna use that triangle. What is that? Alex, what are you doing
with that triangle? That is not a good choice. And you added a gradient to it? What is this? Oh my god. He’s putting the info in the top, okay. Including all the information
that the client wanted, good. Is this the right size? I mean, I can’t remember what
the exact dimensions were, but they’re clearly
working on different sizes. And I’m just gonna give
the benefit of the doubt, the designer did the right size. The designer has made
a cool looking poster. He has duplicated it. I think he’s gonna make
another version of it. I love that, like, our
designers at Design Pickle, they’ll like, make
multiple versions of it, so you, kind of have a
choice between what you want. Alex, what are these lines? Are you building a road? It’s like, Santa Clarita
is that way. (laughs) What? Okay, now he’s done, cool. So I really like that. It’s nice and simple. It definitely has that Spartan look that the client was looking for. It’s legible. Straight forward. Oh god. These arrows are just like, Oh, lens flare. Sun? What is that? How did you make that? (laughs) I think he’s on Illustrator right now, which I tried my best to learn
Illustrator and it is hard. I don’t know how the
heck he just did that. I don’t think he even
knows how he just did that. Whoa, what are you doing? What are these. Like, is he warping? What are you doing? He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s trying to figure
out how to delete that. Okay, good. (gasps) He didn’t start over. This is it? This is the final design? What? What is that? What is? What? That is where you thought,
yeah this is good enough. If I just saw this, like on an ad or like, anywhere, I would be like, wow. What five year old is
starting a convention? The client submitted Spartan photos, the Spartan logo. Just a bunch of Spartan stuff. You were like, nah bro, I’m gonna make arrows that are gradient. What’s with the sun in the corner? Like, super, super small? Is that a sun? I can only imagine that’s the sun. And then conquer is literally
on the edge of the poster. Oh god, but it’s absolutely terrible. This is like abstract art. The designer made two versions that has a giant Spartan logo and a shield and then the actual logo at the very top. And it says conquer in huge
letters, EFP Convention 2018. I know, okay, this is a
poster promoting a convention and at the bottom it
tells me where and when. Cool. Different colors. Different kind of graphic elements to really make it look nice and clean. I think the designer won. In all of my years of
Designer vs. Non-Designer, in all of my four episodes,
this takes the crown for the ugliest design, if
you can even call it that, I’ve ever seen. And the designer deserves a raise for even needing to be compared to this. If you are an Alex or anywhere in between, and you don’t have the time or resources or skill to make these designs, check out Design Pickle, $370 a month, unlimited graphic design,
you’re own dedicated designer. 14 day money back guarantee. So there’s no reason why not to try it. Stay tuned for more episodes. Let me know if you agree with me or not. If you think Alex did a fantastic
job and you wanna see more of his design out in the world,
let me know in the comments. Don’t forget to follow and subscribe us. We’re gonna put out more of
these episodes every week. Thank you guys. See you next time. (upbeat music)

  1. I like unfair fights, too. Next, will you do a Japanese/English translator vs a non translator for translating a Japanese poster?

  2. OK WE GET IT, YOU DON’T LIKE THE NON-DESIGNERS WORK. ALEX DID HIS BEST, AND YOUR STILL RANTING ABOUT HOW HE SHOULD DO SOMETHING BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONE, ITS NOT ABOUT HOW COOL THE LOGO IS BUT ITS ABOUT INFORMATION ITSELF. ALEX MUST BE HURT RIGHT KNOW AFTER WHAT YOU SAID. IF YOU WERE HIM THAN YOU WOULD BE HURT TOO. GRAPHIC DESIGN TAKES PRACTICE, TIME, AND PATIENCE IN ORDER TO MASTER THE ARTS OF GRAPHIC DESIGN.

  3. I saw this as an add so I decided to come and say that I completely disagree, the designer might have nice work but they have nothing worth catching attention, the non-designer made something unique and creative, to be put down like that was quite unnecessary, if I saw those two fliers on a wall, I probably wouldn't have even read the designer's

I think the Non-Designer won with flying colors, they should be the one getting the job

  4. These videos are so condescending and stupid. Pitting a professional against a amateur, and pointing out the short comings of the amateur. It must be nice to sit and point out the faults of others. A shitty way to push a product. These videos suck.

  5. Just stop honey, stop making Alex' work seem like it's crap, don't make it a bigger deal than it is. You knew exactly what he was trying to make with those lines, it was obviously arrows. stop being dramatic about his work, it's not as bad as you make it seem, just settle down, we get your point.i honestly like his much better. Stop being rude.

  6. What is this supposed to prove? You put someone who has no experience in a particular field against someone who is experienced just so you can make them look better? That’s like having a college athlete race a 5 year old. Obviously the college athlete is going to win. Lame advertising. It’s safe to say I know which graphic design company I’ll never use!

  7. This isn't fair at all. I've been seeing your videos as ads for the past couple of weeks, and I don't understand this. Of course the non-designer's work isn't gonna be as great as the designer's because guess what? THEY'RE NOT A DESIGNER. And you keep making Alex's work seem like garbage. He seems like he's trying his best. If all this series is gonna be is just you making the non-designers feel like shit, then this series is gonna be garbage.

  8. @Design Pickle is everyone trolling in the comments or what the fuck…? I came here to troll "about how unfair the video is" just to make someone laugh but then I changed my minding because the comments here are like mother of all trolls….;/ :S

  9. Interestingly enough, you didn’t see that the pro designer got the information wrong – she wrote EFP Convention.

Non Pro got it right – he wrote EPP Convention (Which is correct)

You want to give the designer a raise but in fact she got the job wrong! 🤔

  10. This is very cool and I wish I had the time and resources to study design… but this just seems very mean spirited? Taking such mean joy in unfairly critiquing doesn't really sell me on your product or service. Just makes the company seem a little superior.

  11. "Oh yeah the designer did the correct size and like totally Alex didn't do the right size cuz you know I'm like so cool by being trashy at people!! :D"
