DU/ArtDenver 2014

[upbeat music] This last summer I started climbing 14ers with my pack full of painting gear, and I decided to plein air paint on the summits of 14ers. This is Mount Democrat which is up kind of by Breckenridge area. I just decided to start doing it because of Art History classes I took at DU. I came about it as a progression of wanting to start first painting the 14ers, and then it turned into Plein Air painting at the summit. The mountains create their own weather, so five minutes from now the lighting can be completely different than it was five minutes ago, so that makes it a lot more difficult. My DU experience was great! The professors there all really want to help you succeed regardless of what department you’re in you can always use them as a source after you graduate. I’m really excited to finish this project, and finish painting all of the mountains from the summit. Hopefully, that will propel me into what I’m going to do next. This all started in undergraduate… I guess it’s just kinda morphed into a whole line after I did my BFA show. So, I was doing this right out of college. I decided to go in to DU to focus on the business side of the arts. I like to do a lot of forming techniques cold processes, such as hammering, texturing, forging. I do pretty much all the fabrication and it’s primary what I do with my jewelry. I mix and match stuff. I like kinetic details and I’m really inspired by lines and geometry and different natural components. University College has been great because I’m
primarily doing all the business end of the arts. So, I’ve done everything from marketing,
which been super helpful because I had no previous knowledge or experience, that’s really helpful when running my own business. [upbeat music]
