Hi! My name is Andrew I’m here at Media Studies
& IT at Humber College I’m with Mark Karam who is the program lead of our Graphic Design
for Print and Web accelerated program. Tell us a little bit about it Mark.
So our accelerated program is a 22-week program it’s geared towards anybody in the
creative industries either if you’re in photography, industrial design, or a fine
arts they’re looking to come to us to upgrade their skills with the Adobe
software and learn more about the fundamentals and graphic and web design.
Great we have two starts a year one in March one in September. Mark’s email is
right here it’s 22 weeks as Mark said and also class hours, what are the hours of class?
10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every day Monday to Friday Excellent here’s a list of courses
that we offer it’s quite extensive coverage all of the Adobe Creative
Suite in terms of Graphic Design for Print and Web Development and Design.
And so we even do a little bit of Web Development in this course.
Throughout the entire program we start off with the basics of HTML and HTML5 moving
on to CSS and CSS3 using CSS3 animations. And then we move into responsive design and
WordPress and usability, UI as well. Here’s a example of a
student’s blog and the blog is an example of the student creating website,
designing it, and then reflecting on the work that he or she is doing.
Exactly it’s more or less like a journal reflection journal for the students
throughout their academic career, so as they do in class projects, assignments,
lessons, they write about it. “What I’ve learned”, “What can I take away?”, “How can I
apply these lessons to my major project?”, and also just a space for them to talk
about design related things. They learn quite a bit. Tons of stuff – Typography, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign for Page Layout. Quickly, real quickly here is the blog
that we have for the program, all the projects are shown here, here’s a project
that shows off album art which goes into Print and Web as a promotional
piece to it where they build a website to promote the album sale. Excellent! Let’s just quickly wrap up
here, here’s the information if you want to apply go to “How to Apply” button
which gonna bring you to the Ontario College Application Service website I will let you
figure it out from there. In terms of portfolio the students going to
ultimately be given you the portfolio. What should they have in the portfolio?
So in the portfolio we ask for between 4 to 6 of your best pieces they can be
anything design related, again if you’ve come from the fashion industry,
industrial design, interior design, fine arts, photography or even graphic
design, traditional. You can put those pieces as a PDF along with your current
resume and a letter of intent. So Graphic Design for Print & Web, 22 weeks to start
dates March and September, Mark thanks very much! And if you have any questions
Mark’s email is right here.
