Hart-felt Furniture with Ed Hartman

It’s about home, family, comfort. Your individual style. Your individual look. It does show your personality. Being in the business for over 48 years I’ve
seen a lot of things, have seen textures change in fabrics. Colors change. Sometimes the greens were hot, sometimes the
blues, now it’s grays. Trends you have to predict. You gotta take the gut feeling that… I know this is gonna sell attitude when you
pick something out to put in a store because you are projecting out for a six month period
of time. I think your own intuition can lead you astray
at times. Your not gonna be right all of the time. Trying to pick whats right for the consumer
is not an easy decision because you have different ages that your dealing with, you have different
philosophies and what do they want for their home? But today home is important. There’s different philosophies in upholstery. You wanna look at the content of the fabric. I look for comfort, I look for durability
because I know I want it to last. Leather…a good 100% genuine leather… your
gonna have marks on it. The steer has gone up and got scratched or
there’s fights or whatever. To me that’s a signature. You’re the only one that’s gonna have that
mark. The finishes change. The hardware changes. But you still have that basic timeless piece
of a good quality piece of furniture and that’s what I really look for. Once you get furniture in your blood, it’s
hard to get it out. Over the years I have had a lot of fun and
a lot of headaches, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Not at all.
