How Innovations in Lighting Design can Transform & Enhance Interior Workspace

(music.) Oh hi! Thanks Gina. Have you ever noticed how the
right lighting can brighten your mood? We all know the answer is
yes, but there’s so much more involved. Today I’m meeting with
a company that understands this better than anyone else. (music.) This is Bob and
Gabrielle from Lumenoptix. They
came by today to see our new studio. I’m introducing them to
Ryan who has just finished putting up the last of their
l-e-d luz panels in the modular office area. So this is our
creative space and offices for our producers and our writers. A
lot of magic is going to happen here. And actually here is Ryan,
hi Ryan! Hey, how are you? I
want you to meet Gabrielle and Bob from Lumenoptix. Hey Bob! Hi
Ryan. Hi Gabrielle. Hi nice to
see you! I was just adjusting
the lights. Our electrician came
in and wired them all up. I’m
making sure they’re nice and level and plum and in a straight
line. For a modern work
environment the Luz is really a perfect product to work under. With the color temperature that
we chose which is 4,000 Kelvin it’s more like a daylight
environment and it works really well with the way people working
in the offices today. And well I
think there is going to be about 50 employees in here actually so
it’s going to be a very busy space and I think that the
aesthetics are really important. So I do have some of the 2X2 lay
ins installed in one of the offices if you want to have a
look at one of them. Absolutely! One of the big challenges with
the old edit bays was they had the traditional 2X4 fluorescent
lay ins and the glare was really bad and they’re working in
computers, so consequently they shut their lights off so that
the glare doesn’t bother them. But in a short while now that
you’re staring at a bright computer screen in a dark room
their eyes start hurting. I
think that editors who will be spending long hours in this area
that lack of glare is going to be key for them. It’s going to
be huge. They’re going to be so
happy. 2X2 is really our most
popular in the Luz Panel Luminers and the recess grid is
actually the most popular type of installation so it’s very
easy for really any office to use. We left Ryan to finish
straightening up and headed to the studio to learn more about
Lumenoptix. Well, Gabrielle and
Bob thank you for joining me in the studio. Tell me a little bit
more about your company. We
really try to execute on designing purpose built fixtures
to solve specific problems. Fixtures are highly engineered
with unique optical and electrical properties that make
them some of the best in the industry. Can you tell me more
about the lighting design process in general? Well, we
typically start with schematic or layout, a mechanical layout
of the facility and then we model those spaces in software
to determine which of our fixtures would best be suitable
for the spaces to get the most even lighting scheme that we can
get. It all comes down to the
products, right? So I want to
take a closer look at some of your products. Ok, let’s head on
over! Ok, so let’s dive right
in. You’ve brought a couple of
your really awesome products here. These types of pannels
have been around believe it or not for a long time. They used
to be fluorescent based. These
panels are less than a half an inch thick. They have strips of
LEDs along two edges and the LEDs fire the light into a wave
guide this way and then shoots it back out to the surface and
illuminates the whole panel. Wow! And then how does it move
from say here to here? So you’ve
done different sizes, but it’s still the same product through
and through, right? Yes it’s
still the same product. This is
a great example of how we can customize our products. The 1X4
is a cooler size. We have a
matte black it gives more of an industrial look and techy feel. How many color choices do people
have? Will you just create that
color? As long as it’s specified
like a pantone color we can go out and match that to the frame. We have sitting over here
something called the LRD. Can
you explain to me a little bit about that? What it is if you
have an old traditional down light and it might have been
compact fluorescent or metal ally you can actually just take
the lamp and just quickly take the guts out of that fixture. This fits right in inside there
and you can do all of that in about 5 minutes. Why is this
such a big hit in the contractors? We understand
contractors. We understand what
they do and we understand how they work. We really tried with
the LRD and all of our other lines to make them extremely
easy to install. Time is money. While the front half of the
building is still being renovated, I just had to get
their thoughts on what type of lighting they’d add to our lobby
to really make it pop. When our
clients come through the front doors we want to make a really
big impression so what we’ve done is put garden on the wall
is basically a garden on the wall. It’s real big. We’ve got a
ship lap with different wood tones. We really wanted to bring
you in this space to really high light the features that we’ve
got in here. With accent
lighting we could do a wall wash that creates shadow and
interest. We could have spots
that highlight certain elements. There a lot we could do here and
have some fun!
