Jeep Wrangler Rugged Ridge Interior LED Courtesy Lighting Kit (2007-2018 JK) Review & Install

This Rugged Ridge Interior LED Courtesy Lighting
Kit is for those of you that have a 2007 and up JK that are looking to add some additional
interior lighting to your Jeep, but you don’t just want some traditional LED strips. This is going to do a lot more than that. This is multicolored. This is going to fade and strobe. This is going to move with the music. This has a ton of additional features. Now, all of that means that this isn’t going
to be for everybody. This is gonna be a little bit flashier, and
not everybody’s gonna be interested in this kit. But, for those of you that are really looking
to make a statement with your interior, this is going to be a great way to do that. This kit is going to install fairly easily
into your Jeep. I’m going to give it a two out of three wrenches. The reasoning for that is there’s gonna be
a little bit of wiring or at least a connection at the battery to do with this kit. You’re also gonna have to pull the rest of
the wires around to make all of your connections, but we’ll talk a little bit more about that
installation in just a second. Now, if you’re just looking to change up your
interior lighting, there are different kits that you can buy that you will just be able
to get LED bulbs for your interior lights. If you want to add some footwell lights, and
lights underneath the edges of the tub, you can get individual LED strips, the cuttable
type, different colors, dimmers, you can get a couple of different options. This is really going to be a kit that has
everything built right into it. It has a controller here that lets you change
from one color to the next again, fade, strobe, move with the music, do a lot of different
things that some of those other kits don’t offer. Now, all of those features mean that this
one’s gonna be a little bit more expensive than some of the others. But if you’re gonna take advantage of those
features, I do think it’s gonna be worth it. So as you can see, this kit is going to come
with everything you need to get it set up. You’re going to have two larger LED bars here
and four smaller ones. You can really pick and choose where you’re
going to put these in the Jeep, underneath the dash, underneath the seat. Like I said before, underneath the rails of
the tub in the back area, wherever you want. You just have to know that the wire here has
to be long enough to get back to this central source here. And these aren’t just a traditional two wire
light where you can cut and solder in some additional wire, or cut to shorten these up
to make the install cleaner. These are going to be a pre-terminated four-pin
connector. And you’re probably not going to want to cut
and solder on this. You’re gonna need that to be connected in
as it is right out of the box so that you get all of the color and strobe functionality
out of these lights. If you go messing with the wiring, there’s
a chance that you could lose some of that. So, just keep in mind wherever you’re putting
these that the wires do have to be long enough to get back to this plug-in panel here. And that is also going to be pretty close
to where you’re wired remote is going to be. Of course, you can pull these wires through
the firewall, have the remote on inside, have the connector underneath the engine bay. You have a couple of different options there
depending on how you gonna wire these up. So again, two out of three wrenches varying
amount of time that this could take you to install depending on how you decide to run
your wires. It could be as little as an hour up to three
hours. The first step is really going to be positioning
all of your lights. But before you do that, I would figure out
where you wanna put this central plug-in panel because again, everything has to be able to
reach back to that central area. Once you have that figured out, you can go
ahead and connect all of your lights up, get all of them mounted. Now, these are going to come with C-clips
that will go on either side of each of these LED tubes. Each of those C-clips has an adhesive backing
on it so that you can just go ahead and stick those in place. You don’t have to drill, but these also have
holes in them so if you do want something a little bit more security, you can use yourself
a tapper and get those connected up that way. However, you decide to do it, you’ll mount
all of your tubes in your interior, run all of your wires back to the central location. You will have to pick up a power and a ground
with the wiring harness here. And you’ll want the remote section to be in
the interior of the Jeep so it’s very easy to reach and turn the lights on off and it
go through all the different modes. These actually are gonna come in at right
around $100. And I do think it’s gonna be a pretty good
deal. They have a lot of different colors, they’re
very bright, they have a lot of different features built into them, that make them very,
very useful, if you’re looking for that type of style inside your JK. So if you’re looking to add a very unique
set of LED lights to the interior of your JK, I would recommend taking a look at this
kit from Rugged Ridge, and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.
