Today we’re going to show you the difference between high quality and low quality RGB LED Strip lights Even though most RGB LED Strips look very similar there are many different components that make the LED Strips And they can vary massively in terms of brightness, richness in colours, length of life, reliability and colour consistency Firstly we will show you the difference in brightness’s Light output is measured in Lumens We can measure the Lumens output of both LED Strips by using the same set up Of all of the LED at 100% power and holding the Lumen reader at the exactly the same distance for each test As you will see the low quality LED Strip shows a maximum of 775 Lumens And as you will see the high quality LED Strip has a maximum of 1425 Lumens As you will see the high quality LED Strip is nearly as double as compared to the low quality strip Just to show you how the set up was created, both LED Strips are wired directly to a Transformer Next we will show you the difference in voltage drop in a 5 metre reel High quality LED Strip is 24 volts to carry the current better Where is low quality LED Strip is 12 volt This will affect the output along a 5 metre reel which can also affect colour mixes in large applications If the strips are butted up together The high quality strip it will show 24 volts at the start of the reel And as you will see at the end of the reel it is still showing 22 volts This means a voltage drop of around 8% The low quality LED Strip will show 12 volts at the start of the reel And as you can see towards the end of the reel it is showing 10 volts This means a voltage drop of around 16% Double that of the high quality LED Strip Here we will show you the difference in the ability to be able to produce a pure white Here we have by passed an controller and wired both strips to a transformer This means all of the Red, Green and Blue LED’s are at 100% power In the high quality LED Strip the LED’s are high quality Taiwan Epistar SMD’s And the low quality LED Strip they are Chinese alternatives As you will see in the high quality LED Strip all of the Red, Green and Blue LED’s are around equal power Meaning you can produce a nice Pure White It’s quite difficult to show this exactly in the video As you will see in the low quality LED Strip some of the LED colours are weaker than others Meaning a Pure White cannot be exactly achieved There is more of a blue tint Next we will show you the difference in the quality of the PCB A correct thickness PCB is crucial to disburse the heat from the LED’s To give the LED life of 70% brightness after 50,000 hours The high quality LED Strip uses a 12mm wide PCB and is 4mm in thickness The low quality LED Strip uses a 10mm PCB and is 3mm in thickness This means the low quality LED Strip will deteriorate in brightness a lot quicker And will not last as long as the high quality type The low quality LED Strip uses an unbranded sticky back tape The high quality LED Strip uses the 3m branded self adhesive backing tape As you will now know there are many different types of LED Tape out there They can look the same and the supplier can even claim the same quality and output Although they can be completley different InStyle supplies commercial grade LED Strips for both homes and commercial applications at low prices All goods are in stock, made to length, and for next day delivery Please subscribe for weekly videos on LED installations, wiring, controllers and more
