M Moser is a company that designs and delivers great workplaces. M Moser has offices worldwide. Most often we are asked by our clients to lead the complete integrated effort. However when
responsibilities and roles are somewhat divided, M Moser’s Virtual Design and
Construction capabilities can greatly enhance the results. the VMware project located in Bangalore is a perfect example. The new offices required for VMware are more like designing a small campus in many ways.
The need was quite sizable about four hundred and fifty thousand square feet
and three thousand occupants. Design may proceed well but to get what we all want:
A quality result that exceeds expectations, it can be a real struggle
to fully achieve what was intended. Innovative designs are only half the
story. Achieving innovative design requires an
innovative approach to team communication and team understanding.
VMware sorts the value of this approach. It’s all about the people not
documentation. The people need to understand each other and communicate well. Documents are not the solution the best
way to get the team was going to invite all the parties to participate. We took the innovative designs and
constructed them virtually. We showed this in step-by-step sequence as 4D virtual mock-ups. Essentially 4D is 3d over 4th dimension of time. Once we had the step by step sequences we
could use them with the team in many ways. We shared this virtual construction
with the people who build. Sometimes it helps to clarify understanding and
sometimes it leads to modifications to improve the performance of the design. We shared the designs including the 4D sequence of construction with
everyone. We did this by printing booklets that bring more like graphical
novels than traditional blueprints and we posted the step-by-step virtual mock-ups
right under construction site in dozens of places right where they were needed.
One of the powerful things about this matter is that 3d and 4d virtual
construction transcend cultural and language barriers. I can’t think of a
better way than with virtual design and construction. Without a doubt, M Moser’s
unique 3D and 4D approach greatly improved coordination and quality under
an extremely tight time schedule. The result has been extraordinary. Innovative
design has been delivered. VMware has a powerful tool in the form of the new
workplace to achieve the objectives.
