Meet Matt, a User Interface Designer at J.J. Keller

My name is Matt Chiolino and I’m an interface designer
at J.J. Keller. The coolest part of my job is I get to bounce
back and forth between being very technical and coding and then designing things and making
new things. My team designs and develops the front end
of websites and mobile applications for my company and I believe that helps give J.J.
Keller a fresh face, so that our customers can interact with us in a more positive way. I chose to live and work in Northeastern Wisconsin
because I like the balance between small town and big city. It’s not too big, it’s not too small. I come from a really small town, so it’s nice
being able to have all the amenities of a big city without being in a big city. I think the biggest skill that helped me become
successful is just my people skills in general. So my first career was in the restaurant industry
and I feel like being able to interact with people and being able to use my people skills
has made a positive impact. I’m really proud of a lot of accomplishments
in my career path, I don’t know if I can necessarily nail down one single accomplishment, just
basically being able to create something new and put my stamp on it. I feel very proud of the work that my team
puts out. We are very good at working together, sketching
out, doing a lot of white-boarding and sketches and things like that. Just bouncing ideas off of each other and
really really really collaborating and kind of living and breathing in that team environment. I think everybody should want to take more
IT courses just because there’s so much, there’s a plethora of things out there that you can
do with IT. There’s things from video editing to website
design, to just anything that you can use to make a difference in the world. Get your feelers out there and just see what’s
out there because it took me quite a while to realize that this was my passion. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. There are days where I will go 20 times failure,
failure, failure and then you get that one success and it’s just so rewarding because
you failed so many times, you’ve tried all these different ways to succeed and you finally
do it. It’s just a really rewarding career path.
