Mikes Monthly Minute: Mind of the Designer

Mike
Donovan: Hey everyone. I’m Mike Donovan and welcome to Mike’s Monthly
Minute. You know, every month in the Mike’s Monthly Minute we try to teach
you a little bit about lighting. This month we’re gonna take it a little step
further. I’m gonna talk to you a little bit about how we design our
light fixtures and how when we’re doing it we try to satisfy both sides
of the brain. The left and the right hand side of the brain. Now, the left hand side of the brain is considered
to be a little bit more logical, analytical. A little bit more
conservative. Whoa. Hey, left brain, how are you? Welcome to Mike’s Monthly
Minute. Left brain: I am very well, Michael, thank
you. Although I love the informative nature of these videos, you know,
I’m not particularly thrilled with how silly they can be. Right brain: Come on, Lefty, you big bummer
brain. Let’s have some fun. Michael: Well, as you can see the right hand
side of the brain is a little bit more creative, a little bit more
intuitive and thoughtful. Right brain: And I’m not such a Debby Downer
like Lefty over there. Left brain: This is what I’m complaining about,
Michael. He’s always so goofy and please do not call me Debby. Michael: And you people wonder why I’m a little
bit nutty. I kind of need both of you guys to work together. It’s
kind of in my best interests. Well, lucky for us, I’m not the one designing
our products. That job falls to our own Gregory Kay and our top notch
engineering team. When designing our fixtures, our engineers try
to satisfy both sides of the brain. Let’s take a look at our Cirrus family
of fixtures and how we try to keep the peace between the left-hand and the
right-hand side of the brain. Left brain: Seems logical. Right brain: Seems logical. Come on, Lefty,
that’s an awesome idea. Mike: You know, from a technical standpoint,
Lefty, why don’t you tell me what you find most appealing about the Cirrus
family of fixtures. Left brain: The Cirrus family comes in many
forms. A ceiling and a wall version and a suspended version. The fixtures
are minimal in design and extremely versatile. And we use only the highest
quality LEDs that come in the correct color temperature of 27 and 3,000
degree Kelvin. They also have very high CRIs with a very high R-9 value.
We offer 12 and 24 volt options, depending on your application, and all of
our Cirrus fixtures are fully dimmable. The fixtures come in a few different
wattages with a very high lumin package. Right brain: Are you done Mr. Fascinating?
I get it. Yeah. These fixtures are technically correct. But you
know what? My side of the brain was hired to make these fixtures fun, so the
lighting designer can be really creative to make their space unique
and beautiful. The Cirrus fixtures come in six different extrusion finishes.
They can be wall mounted, ceiling mounted or suspended. The
ceiling and the wall mounts can be done with a four by four J-box and a cover
plate, man. Or they can do it with our exclusive, slim line J-box that gives
the designer the cleanest mounting possible. You can do these suspension
fixtures in a single port or a multiport. You can also do them on an monorail.
And then you can crisscross these fixtures to really make a
unique suspension fixture. There’s many different lens options available
and the Cirrus family’s offered in all kinds of custom sizes that
can fit almost any application, man. And we’re also introducing a new fixture
called The Glide. This fixture offers decorative glass panels on
the side of the Cirrus extrusions. Mike: Well, that’s it. Thanks for watching
Mike’s Monthly Minute. If you want to see any of these new products or request
the catalog, feel free to visit edgelighting.com. Well, that’s it brain halves. Back inside. Right brain: Ah no, I’m not going if he’s
not going. Mike: No. Seriously. Right now. Back inside.
