I belive that with brilliant ideas, professional designing and cost-efficient implementation you can solve most of the design challenges. With great design and branding you can atract more customers to hotels, for example. It doesn’t matter whether a hotel has one or five stars, it can be designed to become ‘the talk of the town’ and to attract growds like a magnet. The same can be done to ferries, too. For example Viking Line expected to attact some 800.000 passengers to its new Viking Grace during the first year but the result was 1.3 million passengers. It was bit of a sensation. Ferry’s novel design became popular talking point and people wanted to come to check it out after it had been recommended by their peers. The same applies to office interiors. We can improve atmosphere and engage employees. Even quite many personnel conflicts can be solved with clever design solutions. We can create energetic atmosphere which motivates employees. Our goal is to create workspaces that make employees smile and feel good about their work. Execution can be simple. I myself feel passionate about vertical surfaces and lighting, and how you create whole spatial experiences for the clients. Usually the solutions are not at all that expensive. You just need good ideas and excution so that you get the right atmosphere. I would say that in Finland we have concentrated too much in lay-outs and in technical details. And forgotten two extremely important things; – firstly the look and feel you create with vertical surfaces and secondly the lighting. These are the two elements I always want to emphasize.
