Painting! | Shae’s Earthbag Bedroom Ep23 | Weekly Peek

last week we installed the soil cement
floor in the lower circle and continued working on the stair rail for Shae’s
Earthbag bedroom [music] we decide to paint the exterior next with a heart in mind,
we pick some paint samples so mom brought back some maroonish colors to
decide what we want on the walls I kind of like this one this purplish one
and I like this dark red one here so whichever one you think will look best
mama because your your backyard Keo is gonna come with me hey, hey I thought you were coming with me okay Bree, Garen, Bryson and Shae
are gonna take a trip to Florida they’re busy getting ready while they’re doing
that, I’m gonna get started and head over to the hoop barn and save on some money [meow] we really need to clean up our hoop barn it’s just an absolute mess in here and I’m not gonna show you because you know
we don’t show things like that and we’ve got all of these paints can you see
them behind me I would rather use what I have and run down and spend 100 bucks on
a five-gallon bucket of paint Shae likes these colors – if at all possible – I went online and I found out okay this might be a huge
mistake let’s just have some fun you can make a maroon color it’s a
combination of violet and red which is really just a lot of red and then maybe
25% blue I’m going to see what I have I doubt I have any red paint but I’m gonna
take a look and see if I can make a paint that’s either close to these or
something that we at least can live with the good news is our paint is increasing
in size we’re getting closer to the 5 gallon mark is definitely a lighter
version of what I wanted kind of a plum I’ll have to see what Shae thinks of the color all right Shae, so here’s a color I came up with it’s not really these you can see these are much darker but do you like
that color? that’s nice that’s not bad should we go with it Shae? yeah, let’s do it let’s do it I think it’s Gizbert approved it’s Gizbert approved so Shae’s going to have a pink room? no but
look it’s not pink it’s purple let’s let it dry that’s purple that’s pink this is dry yeah you see, it’s purple not pink when he first started putting it up on the wall
I was scared because it looked like it was coming out pink and I knew
that that was the one color that Shae did not want I’m sorry you think it’s
too pink I really, really don’t want pink if we have blue, we can add to it [music] it’s a really nice purpley color it’s light purple but it’s still pulplish okay, it’s kinda pastelly purple it’s my tongue color well, Shae yes Bryson what do you think? I haven’t
decided yet I don’t want it to be pink it’ll be no doubt that a chick lives here that’s for sure Don’t look – don’t look at it observe his chin pink and earlier I’m pretty sure I saw him eating something
that he shouldn’t have been eating it’s really cool oh I love it do you love it? yeah Bullet? why don’t you tell us what you’ve done? I
think you have a confession to make you can’t drop your ball here look at that no
no what am I going to do with that? I’ll tell Bryson it’s his dog yep Bryson, you dog did something you need to come clean it up what did he do? he did that how do you
feel in the matter? oh there’s a Rudolph elf Scooby Doo you see anything? not yet Grinches create your own [music] what did you come up with? we have this little elf here he’s
just cute and we’re gonna cut him out and get him put on there with some
lights just like in the beard, on his feet we’ll throw some
lights on him he’ll be fun [music] maybe a stand for the front yard yeah going all fancy this year you looking very elfy [music] I like it it’s a little purple no, it’s a – it’s a good purple though it’s uh it’s good it doesn’t look pink at all it’s perfect for Shae’s room [music] I guess she got both saw horses let me get it okay Shae you’re gonna trust me to paint this when you’re gone? yes, yes I am pretty much all you’ll have to do is the
petals you still want me to do that with the pop bottles? um hum I’m making happy new
trees and we’re gonna put one – oh that’s oh that’s daring remember Bob Ross I’m a flinger, a flinger, a flinger but it’s okay oh it kind of matches this tree that’s hilarious I think I’m done my cold hands are
done I’m loving it alright Shae alright, alright [music] you got her done Gar? yep the kids left for Florida Hey!!! [music] so good luck mom and
dad with this week’s Weekly Peek and we’ll see you next week Shae has left the instructions with taking a two liter pop bottle the shape at
the bottom of this bottle does make a pretty good flower I’m gonna be dipping
it into paint placing it on this tree we don’t have a flat enough wall okay we’re going to have to go to plan B this bottle thing clearly doesn’t work makes sense, it’s not a flat wall I’ll wait till Shay gets back because
she’ll have some great ideas I’m looking forward to seeing what she comes up with well Gary any luck? that’s why we have Bryson do this are you going to be able to figure it out? I hope to get it figured out these things go on here somewhere what is it? is it a Christmas elf? an Elf? so we’re gonna skip the drone shots Gar? I really don’t
want to I want to get this going okay I believe in you all right thanks Buddy Bye calibrate this shall we do the dance? [music] you got it! you did it there you go mm-hmm yeah we looked at a lot of your
suggestions you gave for our skylight and we sure appreciate those kind of our research and everything we bumped into this garage sale where
Shelly found this piece of glass for a buck yeah this is one of those that
you put on your tabletops person we bought this from said that it was
tempered and some of the problems of all windows how am I going to get this into
a situation where it doesn’t leak if I tilt the window slightly, the water runs
to one area so that might be a good solution this is oversized so we’re gonna
have to build a frame for it to set in not quite sure how yet to attach it stay
tuned we’ll be installing this soon [music] and all the bells on earth shall ring on Christmas day, on Christmas day in the morning let us all rejoice again on Christmas Day, on Christmas day and let us all rejoice again on Christmas day in the morning thanks for being here stay tuned for next Friday’s as we continue building on Shae’s earthbag bedroom we
won’t be having our regular Wednesday podcast because we’ll be arriving late
that day home from Florida but we will have our regular Weekly Peek have a
great week and we’ll see you next Friday [music] we don’t want an aquarium up here we didn’t want to blame it on him I didn’t
want to say that out loud oh let’s see but I did it’s more fun
that way and he’s my brother and I get to tease him our family moved from the
city to the country thanks for taking part in our adventure we have new videos
every Friday evening if you would like to help us out, you can like this video,
share it, subscribe or support us on patreon see the links in the description do you think that maybe what we would do since it’s a heart put veins on it and stuff yeah and during Halloween I want to get some giant
blow-up surgical gloves and blow them up and have them crawling over the
building oh yeah yeah yeah I could get some lights and a sound system so when they
walk in, it goes doom, doom and the lights flash on the walls goes from a cute heart to a creepy one a Halloween one a Halloween thump, thump puts her heart into it [music]

  3. Any ideas on what you’ll choose as a roof color? Maybe glue the glass β€˜skylight’ to a small round kids pool with the bottom cut out, attach it inverted to the roof, and seal around the pool’s edge to the roof.

  4. Loved that Christmas song at the end. Idk Bree somthing about that red n black in the outro, digg. liked the hair band..

  5. Nice color. Ya know that once you do the roofing if you put a saying like on the lil candy valentines hearts airplanes might see it.

  6. Poor Diesel, scared of a wood cut out. You should show him it's okay. Love the color you created, Shelley, hope Shae likes it too. Lot of work to do all that painting. Great update.

  7. Love the look of the bottle in the wall! Not sure of you can still get to the top but if you filled it with mineral oil it would appear as a solid glass sphere, the oil optically refracts light the same as glass.

  8. Already missing you Guys/Girls! Not sure anymore what is proper PC, should I just say missing all you things? Hope you are enjoying Florida and have a safe trip home. Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night!

  9. Diesel…ever ready, ever true, protecting his loved ones from all those oversized elves/gnome/Christmassy kinda folk. I salute you Diesel my hero of the week.

  10. "there will be no doubt that a chick lives here, that's for sure" That's a interesting judgment. Its 2017 people! gahhhh!

  11. Wait,, Mom and Dad, is that all you got done, when the kids were away? A few white spots and a found piece of glass? Then you just started goofing off and playing with the drone? They can't leave you alone even for just a week! ;^)

  12. Put film on the skylight glass so if it gets broke it will stay in tacked and it will still keep the rain and hail hailstones out of you get that there.

  13. i am not entirely a fan of the colour but its your room so you can do whatever you want with it and then again it probably looks better IRL than it does on video played on my monitor (the colour displayed on my monitor is not accurate because i have f.lux so my monitor a little bit red tinted)

  14. Aint Shea getting a real wood floor or is it going to be dirt? Shea probably dont want a dirt floor. His socks will get dirty when he takes his shoes off.

  15. I first read Kaki Hunter 's Earthbag Building in 2005 and wanted to build my own place ever since. I don't own land and never hoped to understand all the construction techniques in that book. Watching your family build one room after another has been so inspirational; of the videos available online your family have the most creative projects around.

Keep up the good work! I will continue to watch and learn with great joy.

  16. The paint went on a pinky mauve, but it dried a nice mauvie purple. Love the tree. Diesels ball almost makes a flower pattern. But sponge cutouts would probably be best.

  18. Be sure to use tempered glass on ANY overhead application……or you could use a laminated glass. plate glass is VARY dangerous in that it turns into razor sharp shards.

  19. For the pop bottle flowers you could cut the shapes of the bottom of the bottle out out fat kitchen sponges and hot glue them on said bottle. That way you have a more flexible stamp and can rock it around the curves.

  20. The kids are already on their way out… since you guys have your own edifice, seems like you can haz some adulting there. Help you folks fix up the main house before you jet!

  21. About mounting the glass pane: The center frame of the roof could be used to glue the glass pane to it with silicone. The silicone could, if necessary, be cut to remove the glass pane. Now if the frame would provide a slightly tilted surface -or use a bit more silicone on one side-, it would be quite easy to mount, securely sealed and durable. The word Aquarium gave me that idea.

  22. cut out sponges the same shape as the bottom of the bottles, glue them to the bottles, and use that as a flower brush, thicker the sponges the better for off kilter walls

  23. Never told you but i LΓ•ve your video. Your parents are so great. Question : do you go to school? Actually do you need it? You look like the perfect anarchist family but at the same time you seem's to be the also an ideal representation of conservative values : by this i mean family, duties, you are productive, but you build, you recycle. Would you like to explain it a little? Your dad seem's to be the one working, but that don't mean your mom is opress, in fact she look like a very happy mom who work a lot in for the community.

Question: have you ever make a big family project for her? Cause she is so involve into your project.

  24. Just a thought but, you may want to put some sort of film on glass so it doesnt become Shaes personal in home sun death ray. ( Having visions of childhood killing ants with the suns reflection.)

  25. I know you might not be able to use this with Shae's room, but I think something right up your alley for lighting would be a "Liter of Light" – a bottle filled with water and a little bleach that can produce as much light as a 60 watt bulb. it would fit your builds!

  26. To print a design on an uneven surface try using the same technique as is used in pad printing. Inflate a water balloon (preferable with a soft jell but water may do) then press it on the bottom of the soda bottle that has been dipped in paint. Then press the water balloon carefully on the wall. It may take a little practice but that should do the trick.

  27. Solution for pop-bottle flowers:
    – cut top off of bottle
    – fill bottom part with spray/foam insulation
    – let dry and remove foam
    – you will be left with a spongy foam imprint of the bottom of the pop-bottle

  28. Love the stuff you're doing. Cover bottom of bottle with clothe and test it out on a piece of paper. It should work better.

  29. The moment I saw the dog toy fall in the paint, I thought you were going to use it as a stamp on the wall… I would guess that it would work better than the pop bottle.

  30. Love the paint job, add a touch of elements in compliment yellow orange (very small amounts) for a very dramatic effect. The Yosemite Sam elf is a gas!

  31. Love the series – but are puzzled about the roof
Does it still get sheeting ? Isn't the exposed wood going to be damaged by the elements – moisture, sun in the interim ?

  32. I LOVE your channel! Your family is so blessed to have 'building smarts'! You've created a beautiful courtyard and amazing little houses! Looking forward to more videos…God bless you all… <3 <3 <3

  33. I know i make far too many interjections about your projects but I’ve contracted many homes and learned a number of skills. Amongst which has been a MS in Physics. If i may say so, while that glass may be slightly stronger it lacks the kind of safety you want for a large glass disc that hangs over a loved ones head. Tempered glass while strong, if broken, will rain down in deadly shards and be dangerous to walk over should escape be necessary in emergency. Safety glass allows for a shower of relatively harmless particles raining down and right angle edges that are mostly safe for calloused feet to walk on..that’s why its used in businesses and vehicles. One hopes it never breaks but your roof structure will flex more than many other designs in high weather.
Check at a nearby airplane graveyard for a curved plexiglass window or consider having a 1/4”-3/8” thick vacuum formed cap made. Both will be affordable

  34. I am very curious, does anyone know what area this family lives in?(I am not crazy, just ask the people I have chained up in my basement) I was wondering because it seems like in order to pull this off, you would have to live in an area that stays warm year around
