Redecorating Your Home | JCPenney Custom Decorating


[MUSIC PLAYING] I started doing this about 20 years ago. At first, it was just a job,
going into people’s homes, installing custom drapes
and blinds, and making sure everything was a spec. But it turned into more than that. Each time, I felt myself
getting really invested in what I was doing for the customer. After doing an install, I’d go home with
this incredible sense of satisfaction. I can feel good about a job
well done, and well, they can feel the excitement and pride
of improving the look of their home. It’s so gratifying to help our customers
turn their vision into a reality. Really, they’re the ones
that connect the dots. I bring design experience, and the
installer provides technical expertise. But those things really don’t
matter without the contribution of the homeowner. Really, it’s a partnership. Before the window
coverings go in, a house can look kind of bare, or in some
cases, really outdated, because things are being replaced. I get to take something as
simple as a window, something you take for granted every day, and
turn it into something beautiful. The homeowners invest
a lot of time and money into making their home look special. And being able to help them do that
is one of the best parts of my job. The windows become a blank canvas. And the final result is like
having their very own masterpiece. It’s what makes someone’s house a home. And the homeowners, well,
they’re so appreciative of what we’re doing, because we’re
helping bring their ideas to life. And they’ve done all this work, picking
out fabrics, and measuring windows, and finding that right fit. And then I come in and provide
the last piece of the puzzle. That really makes me feel good
to see the pride on their faces when they finally see
the transformation. It really motivates me to make
sure I get that job done right, and be as efficient
about it as possible. My job entails a lot of
preparation and research. I need to know which
products in our assortment are most appropriate for
each individual customer. I try to anticipate their needs,
and offer guidance while still allowing them to take the charge. Helping the customer
envision their home the way that they want it, but perhaps
never thought it could be is really satisfying. Let’s face it, there’s a
lot to know to be able to do an exceptional job for the customer. Sometimes, they’re really surprised
at how much the installers know. I think they just expect us to
come in and do the job and leave. But that’s not the case. We work face to face with the
homeowner and the decorator on all the details of the install to
guarantee the best possible outcome. If I have any questions, I can always
call up the decorator or someone else in my team from the
