I feel like I have gotten a great education while I have been here. All my teachers have been very helpful and I feel like I have learned a whole lot. I like the sense of community that there is here. We are automatically hands-on. Another neat opportunity we got last semester as fashion merchandising students was to develop a tartan for the university. At the Culinary Cafe we prepare meals in the kitchen for thirty plus guests. It’s more like a real-life restaurant. I developed recipes all base off this paleothic diet and made a menu board for it. Interior Merchandise is a mixture between fashion merchandise and interior design and you kind of get a feel for both of them. I really feel like I am really prepared to go in and teach family and consumer classes to high school students. We see though the design process, to the installation, and then the post occupancy. I’ve learned a lot about nutrition for myself, all the aspects of exercise and making myself the best athletic I can possibly be. We get to take trips with the interior design department and on those trips I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to see the different architecture and different designs first-hand. I love that SFA is a small department for interior design, so therefore, I get personal attention and I get that one-on-one interaction with my professors. There is a class that we take and we do the center pieces every week for the Culinary Cafe, so that, everybody that comes and eats here gets to see kind of what we get to do. We have a lot of projects that we do that help to develop what you are to need in your career in the future. There are job opportunities. I hope to become a diabetes health educator. I’d like to be a manager at a hotel or resort at Disney. Well, one of the great things about our major is that we have to have an internship. So I’m about to go intern with a company that I want to work for post-graduation with their buying team. The Disney college program, it’s a paid internship for college students. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for kids to go work at Disney and have that on their resume. I did last spring and had the time of my life. Our biggest project so far has been the homebound. We provide Thanksgiving dinners to families and I think this past year we reached our goal to provide to 48 families. Every year it is growing. There is very small class sizes, so you get to know all your professors well. Trees and the azaleas, everything is just beautiful. I love the professors. You will just grow as an individual and learn a lot about yourself here. I like to play soccer and I like to be at the rec a lot, workout, run, do all sorts of things. I also enjoy the rec center, I think the rec here is awesome. I love all the events, there is always something going on on-campus. There is so many ways to get involved. There is just so much to do all the time. We also have a lot of organizations that you can join. We’re all kind of like a family here because, the class sizes are so small. Being here at SFA, I never realized how many people want success for you and are willing to help you and make you be the best student that you can be. Everyone is always willing to help you, there is tutoring. It’s a just lot of fun. I think it is a great experience to have, its more of a hands-on, what we are going to do real-life after college. This was my first option. Axe ’em Jacks! Music
