The Modern House and Farrow & Ball meet artist Alessandra Taccia

In my paintings I try to use a very restrained palette. It’s a way to see the subtlety of colours. My name is Alessandra Taccia. I’m an artist, I’m a painter. I live in a Victorian house. I was attracted by this old house because of its imperfections. I could see a lot of possibilities. When we moved here it was quite run down. I changed the colours a few times because of course, it’s not like you can get the right colours straight away. Even a white will never be really white. It’s white in your mind. If you’ve got white walls in a room, you will see that from morning until night, those walls will change completely. Light affects everything. I believe colours have a voice. Strong colours have a really loud voice. So for me it’s a lot of distraction. I can’t live in an environment where there are too many colours. The colours in this house, they are very gentle. They don’t seek attention at all. When people come around, they feel ‘ah’, they relax. They feel really at ease and they just feel like they can also be themselves. They just feel at home.
